Rules based on account/card

Can I set up a rule that would categorize transactions on a specific credit card or account vs breaking down each transaction just by name or amount?
Daniel
Hi all! I'm excited to share that we've just launched a new setting for transaction rules where you can filter by financial account (credit cards, banks, and any other account you've linked to Rocket Money).
You can find this filter on the "Create Rule" page, right below the "Date" filter, which is another new one that we just released.
We would love to hear your thoughts on this: Please give it a try and comment here if you have any follow-up questions or comments!

Daniel Hi Daniel! Very exciting to see active development on this.
One aspect to the feature that was requested (and merged into this request below) is the ability to not only apply rules based on account, but further the ability to *SPLIT that transaction accordingly. The use case for myself (and it seems others on this thread) is automatically splitting (then ignoring half of) transactions with partners that you share a card with. Unless I've missed something, even with the latest update that still isn't possible. Thanks and great to see feature development based on user feedback!

Daniel Hello. Thank you for this update. I want to reiterate what Benjamin also commented on this. It is very nice to assign purchases to a specific account, but when using a shared account/card there is a need to split the cost of the purchase and then ignore half of it. Would be nice to see implemented along with this nice update.

Anthony Fontana: Hi Anthony, thanks for following up!
This post is just about adding a rules filter by account/card, although I hear your point about there being a follow-up piece here for the scenario you mentioned with shared accounts.
There's a separate post here about splitting transactions via a rule. That functionality is on our radar, but it isn't included in this update, which focused on account and date. I would recommend upvoting the post below to be notified of updates
Daniel
Ben D: Thanks for sharing that! The post that you mentioned was merged here automatically because the title said "Rule Based on Financial Account", although the content was about splitting transactions. I've moved it over to the post for splitting transactions via a rule here: https://rocketmoney.canny.io/feature-requests/p/allow-rules-to-create-splits. Thanks for flagging that!
I'd recommend upvoting that post for updates on auto splitting transactions. I do hear your point about automatic splits being useful for shared accounts in particular. Although that is something we're looking into, it's not part of this particular update, which focused on adding account and date filters.

Daniel Thank you for a response! Has there been any thought to add a “Split” category? There’s an “Ignore” category, so I would assume this can also be done.

Rule to apply to transactions from a particular account

My wife and I have two separate Amazon credit cards and it's hard to identify an "Amazon shopping " is from which. With to use different color code or rule to help tell them apart.

Add the ability to apply a rule to only the account(s) specified. This would address the issue where the value specified in the contains clause would inadvertently change a transaction. (for instance - trying to rename a credit card payment transaction when the same phrase is used across several accounts)

I would like to be able to create a rule based on the card used.
My son uses my card at the same stores that I shop so the traditions transaction title does not work to create a rule

Recently I ran into the issue of having 2 separate Citibank credit cards being lumped into one rule because the transaction names are identical. This really messes with the app’s ability to properly track how often, and how much, these 2 separate payments happen. I would like to request the ability to select which transactions go with which rule so that we correctly separate payments like these. I was thinking maybe a checkbox next to each transaction after you initially search for the transaction name.

Create a rule for all transactions on a specific credit card

I use one credit card for work, and would like to track those expenses specifically in a separate rule. It would be amazing to have the ability to create a rule not only by merchant or key work, but by all transactions in a specific credit card.

Account-based Rule

For Rules, there are "Contains" and a string and there is "Amount" and a dollar amount. Please add another layer to Rules such that I can decide an OR/AND logic between not only these two parameters, but also the Account (across all linked accounts) to help me budget with my wife better. We are devoting certain Categories to her, and certain others to me. However, many automatically categorized transactions go into the same Budget. So, a rule that can change the category based on say, Contains "Amazon" and Account "xxxx" will put the transaction properly in one budget whereas I also shop on Amazon, but want such things as separate and properly tracked between our spending so that we track goals much better. Thanks!

Yes! Need to be able to create a rule based on transaction category and account. For example, all shopping transactions on one of my cards is my personal spending and shopping on another card is a joint card. Need to be able to categorize these differently!

Similar ask but we use a particular card for a dependent. Within the budget I would like to track the expenses for said dependent. If a rule can be created to track all transactions of a card against a category then budgeting view becomes easy. Right now I don't have any way to solve for this
