I created custom categories that overlap with some of the default categories. For example, instead of using the default “Restaurants & Dining” category, I include restaurant spending in my broader “Fun Money” category.

The problem is that whenever I visit a new restaurant, the transaction automatically gets categorized under the default dining category. I then have to create a new rule for each individual restaurant to make future transactions go into my custom category.

This happens across several of my custom categories, so keeping my budget organized requires a lot of repetitive rule creation and manual recategorization. It adds unnecessary work and makes the service less appealing to use.

It would be much more helpful if users could either disable certain default categories, set a custom category as the preferred replacement for a default category, or create broader rules that automatically override the default categorization.
