Enable apply transaction tags via rules
in progress
Ki'Andre Thomas
Tags must currently be applied manually. Adding rule-based automation would streamline this process. For example:
- Automatically apply a “Housing Cost” tag to any transaction in the Rent, Utilities, or Home Parking categories.
- Allow tag assignment by merchant, keyword, category, or timeframe.

Hi all, thanks for asking about this! Using transaction rules to apply tags is in progress currently. This update will add an "Apply Tags" action to Transaction Rules. If you'd like an early sneak peek at using this, just upvote this post and I'll reach out to you directly 🚀
Applying tags by category, i.e. automatically applying a specific tag if a transaction has a set category, isn't available as part of this update, but I've flagged that specific part of this request for our product team to review.

Feature Request: Automatic Tag Application in Transaction Rules Current Limitation
Brad LeSage
Transaction rules can automatically categorize, rename, assign to bills, and ignore transactions, but cannot automatically apply tags. Tags must be manually added to each individual transaction. Requested Enhancement: Enable transaction rules to automatically apply tags based on transaction criteria (name, amount, etc.), similar to how rules currently handle categories. Benefits: Use Case Example: Automatically tag Venmo transactions as "Shared Expenses" or tag specific merchant transactions as "Home Renovation" based on transaction name or amount patterns. This would significantly enhance our current transaction management capabilities by combining the power of automation rules with the flexibility of our tagging system.

Add Tag Functionality

Tags should both be able to be added in bulk when selecting multiple transactions, or by creating a rule.
My specific use case:
I have daily recurring investments going to Robinhood. I want to be able to automatically tag these transactions as "investment" because I keep those transactions ignored. I still want to be able to see how much im investing over time directly in Rocket Money and not in Robinhood.

Add rule for tags

I wish there was a way to add a rule for tags. IE If a transaction contains XXX name, add tag YYY and have it apply to all current transactions. Currently the only way I can add a tag, which is a great feature, is to go to EACH entry and individually update it. I love the tag feature, but please make it so that I can apply it like the other rules. IE In rules I can make one for "make it tax deductible" but not for any other tags. I am a premium user. Thanks!!

Does anyone know when we can expect this feature to roll out? I’m really looking forward to this.

Allow Tags to be used in rules

Kindly permit the inclusion of tags within the rules. I have been seeking a method to monitor work expenses without altering the category, thereby losing the context of a transaction. Currently, manually tagging each transaction is counterintuitive.

Add Tags to Rules

The inability to customize the default categories is frustrating. It would be easier to compensate for this limitation if saved tags could be applied in a rule.

Auto-Tagging following rules

Everyone has its own way to organize their finances, I love how I can create a rule and automatically will sort everything where I want but it is still missing auto tag to be able to track more efficiently for people that makes so many transactions in a month.
