Annual/Quarterly Subscription Splits
Colette Hamann
Requesting a feature that allows for the automatic splitting of annual or quarterly subscriptions/fees. I know I could manually go through and use the "split" feature, but it's inconvenient and then all of the upcoming charges for the year block up the top of my Transactions list. For example, I purchase certain medications and software that last me for several months, if not the whole year, and there's no way to spread that payment across time (again - without going through one by one and changing the date to each "split" and then having them always in the way at the top of the list).

Hi Colette, thanks for that feedback! I have a few questions to help understand this better. We would typically recommend the approach that you mentioned of splitting these fees manually, but I can see how it's not ideal for your situation.
For these transactions that you mentioned, do they typically come from the same company/companies? And what type of split what you typically want to do, i.e. a set amount each time or does each transaction have a different split amount?

Some examples of the quarterly or annual transactions would be my Seed probiotics that ship every 3 months, or the All Trails app that is charged annually, or even a grocery item (i.e. protein powder) that's expensive but will last me several months. A set amount would work for most situations.
Going in and manually entering the split is fine, but having to go through each line item to update the DATE is annoying and time consuming. Especially because you can't do this within the Split feature - you have to split the transaction, then go back and click into each line item one by one to change the dates.
My other main gripe about this method - which is possibly the most annoying thing - is that these "future" transactions are all then listed up at the top of my Transactions list, and there's no way to hide them. Something as easy as a feature to "hide future charges" would solve this. If I were to split ALL of my quarterly or annual charges using the Split feature, I would have to scroll down through 50-60 line items at the top of my Transactions list until I finally got to my transactions from the current month.
Thanks for your response and consideration.

Colette Hamann: Thank you for the additional context, it's really helpful! For the challenge with making updates one by one: Our team is thinking through several ways to make bulk editing actions easier. We do have bulk edits on the Rocket Money web version for some areas, like transaction category, but not for dates.
I've passed this feedback onto our team-although we don't necessarily have a feature planned in the near future that will address this, better management of recurring expenses and future expenses is definitely on our radar as something to continue improving.

Thanks Daniel - It would also be very useful to have a feature to filter out those future/upcoming splits in the Transaction list, so they don't pile up at the top.
